Civil War Discharge

Width: 985    Height: 1280    Type: image/jpeg    Updated: 03/21/2012 05:01

Short: Civil War Discharge
Extended:

Civil War Discharge Certificate for Jacob J Rickets, a private in D Company of the 53rd Indiana Volunteers.  According to this certificate he was born in Indian about 1847, enlisted on 13 October 1864, and was mustered out with the rest of the regiment following the end of the war, on 21 July 1865.

This document was found amongst a collection of papers that came to us from the defunct Yahk Pioneer Park Museum. The other papers are pretty random - marriage certificates, birth ceritficates, Canadian citizenship certificate, etc for people who don't appear, at least at first glance, to be connected to Jacob Rickets.

We have no idea how this document came to be in the Yahk Museum's collection.
