Trestle Over the Goat River

Width: 1250    Height: 839    Type: image/jpeg    Updated: 07/15/2010 03:02

Short: Trestle Over the Goat River

This trestle was one of the two major obstacles the CPR encountered while building the Crows Nest Pass railway in 1898.  The deep gorge and rushing river delayed construction so much that a special camp was established at Goat River Crossing.  An epidemic, possibly typhoid fever, broke out there, leading to the construction of the Creston Valley's first hospital and a nearby cemetery for the victims.

The other major obstacle was the long trestle at Kootenay Landing, which is also featured in the Model Railway.
