Creston Grain Elevators

Width: 839    Height: 1250    Type: image/jpeg    Updated: 07/15/2010 02:49

Short: Creston Grain Elevators

The Creston grain elevators were built in 1935 (Alberta Wheat Pool) and 1936 (United).  The United Grain Growers one was originally built by Midland & Pacific.  They stored and shipped many varieties of grain grown on the Creston flats, finally closing in 1972 (red) and 1982 (white).  The red elevator got a new lease on  life, though, when it was sold to local farmers for private grain storage and shipping.

In the background is the concentrator of the Alice Mine, built in 1904 but shut down by 1920.
