Looking north, across the mud flats at the south end of Kootenay Lake. As we crossed here, we could see piles of driftwood right along the base of the railway fill - a good indication of how much the lake level can rise.

Today, the train track runs across a solid bank, but when the line was first built, the trestle, the entire way from Sirdar to Kootenay Landing, was an open trestle:
